So I’m from Seattle and our football team, the Seahawks, are doing really good this season; this leads people to be extra proud of their city. Every week I see people decked out in their seahawks gear, counting down the minutes till kick off. They host parties, make food, spend copious amount of money on tickets and merchandise. People on the street yell to each other “GO HAWKS!” when they see someone else wearing the teams logo. Social media sights erupt with posts, pictures, and tweets all throughout the game.
Don’t get me wrong, I love ALL of this, and I love the Seahawks! What I find interesting though, is what if people were this excited about Jesus. What if instead of consistently boasting about how well our Hawks are playing, we tweeted about how awesome God is, and all the incredible things he is doing in our lives. What if we spent the same amount of money we do on tickets, but instead give it away to someone who actually really needs it. What if we got together with our friends every week, to party. And not party like tailgate before the game, I mean party as in celebrate all that Jesus has done for us.
I just wonder what it would be like if Jesus had as large and public of a fan base as the Seahawks do. Or any NFL team for that matter.
